Supporting Families Through Volunteerism

Volunteers are the lifeline of our organization. We offer countless opportunities for you to show your support as a member of the Why Me Volunteer team if have time and are enthusiastic about helping our kids and their families.

At Why Me & Sherry’s House, volunteers are an essential part of the support we provide to children with cancer and their families. Whether you have a few hours to give, a special skill to share, or simply want to lend a helping hand, there is a place for you at Why Me.

Our volunteers help create a welcoming, supportive environment for families when they need it most—at Sherry’s House, at family events, behind the scenes, and throughout our community.

There are many ways to get involved, some include:

Childcare Assistance

Help provide a safe, fun environment for children while parents attend appointments, support groups, or take a much-needed break. Volunteers may serve on a regular schedule or as part of our on-call team.

Meal Assistance

Prepare a homemade meal or baked goods for families staying at Sherry’s House. A warm, familiar meal can provide comfort during an incredibly difficult time.

Fundraising Events

Help make our events possible by assisting with registration, setup and cleanup, raffles, auctions, ticket sales, flyer distribution, and more.

Family Fun Events

Help create moments of joy for families through our events and activities. Opportunities include registration, food service, arts and crafts, photography, costumed characters, setup, and cleanup.

Housekeeping

Help keep Sherry’s House clean, comfortable, and welcoming for the families who call it home. All necessary cleaning supplies are provided.

Office Support

Lend a hand behind the scenes with mailings, phone coverage, donation follow-up, in-kind donation tracking, and other administrative tasks.

Errand Runner

Help with local errands such as picking up donations, delivering meals and care packages, or distributing flyers. A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required.

Patient Transportation

Provide transportation for families traveling to local hospitals, clinics, appointments, or support groups. A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required.

What to Expect

Volunteers must be 16 or older and complete a volunteer application. Once your application is received, Why Me conducts the required background checks. Qualified applicants then meet with our Volunteer Coordinator for an interview and tour of Sherry’s House.

Before volunteering, you’ll receive the training and guidance you need for your role, including information about the unique needs of the families we serve and our health and safety procedures.
